About Pure Hearts R Us
Pure Hearts R Us (PHRUs) is a California-based nonprofit tackling the state’s housing affordability crisis.
Since 2007, PHRUs has helped over 1,500 families—often first-time homebuyers—achieve sustainable homeownership through financial literacy, housing education, and affordable development programs.
With a goal of placing one million families into homes, PHRUs operates three integrated programs: Pre-Purchase Education, Post-Purchase Support, and Future Development Initiatives.
These efforts provide financial and housing readiness training while expanding access to affordable housing for low- to moderate-income families, veterans, and seniors.
PHRUs is expanding its online presence to amplify its mission, share community impact, and engage partners and donors. This internship is your opportunity to help shape the voice of an organization at the intersection of housing justice, education, and empowerment.
Help Us Share the Story That’s Changing Lives
This is your chance to build a professional digital portfolio while helping real people find homes.
We’re transforming 49 acres of raw land into a livable residential community—complete with mobile homes, ADUs, fire safety systems, roadways, utilities, and landscaped spaces. As an intern, you will work alongside leadership to drive awareness, increase engagement, and grow visibility for PHRUs’ programs and projects—including the development of a 49-acre affordable housing community that’s actually being built.
If you’re studying communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field—and you’re creative, mission-driven, and ready to roll up your sleeves—we’d love to hear from you. This position can also be tailored to support a senior thesis, capstone project, or internship requirement.
What You’ll Get to Do
- Develop and manage social media content calendars (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, possibly TikTok)
- Create and post engaging graphics, reels, videos, and stories that highlight PHRUs’ mission, projects, and partners
- Tell the story of the 49-acre housing development project through photo, video, and narrative updates
- Track engagement analytics and suggest ways to increase reach and improve performance
- Interview program participants, staff, or volunteers to create compelling content
- Collaborate with our team to support email campaigns and website updates
- Research and propose strategic social campaigns tied to housing, nonprofit giving days, or relevant California issues
We’re Looking for Someone Who…
- Is studying Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or related
- Has strong writing and storytelling skills for short- and long-form content
- Is familiar with Instagram, Facebook, Canva, Reels, and basic video editing (bonus if you’ve used Hootsuite, Later, etc.)
- Cares deeply about community change and housing justice
- Can commit to a flexible schedule over summer and/or fall
- May want to turn this into a senior capstone or academic project
